Double Chance Predictions— 1X X2 & 12
Double Chance Predictions — 1X, X2 & 12 Tips for Kenya, Nigeria, Zimbabwe & South Africa
Double chance is one of the safest football betting markets and one of the most underused correctly. It covers two of the three possible match outcomes in a single bet — eliminating one losing scenario entirely. Used strategically, double chance is a powerful tool for accumulators, for protecting picks where the draw is a genuine risk, and for backing strong away teams without committing to their outright win. This guide covers all three double chance options — 1X, X2, and 12 — in depth, with league analysis, research methods, and dedicated sections for how the market works on Betika, Bet9ja, Hollywoodbets, and Luckybets across Kenya, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.

What Is Double Chance? Full Explanation
Double chance (DC) combines two of the three possible 90-minute match outcomes into a single bet:
| Option | Covers | Loses Only On |
|---|---|---|
| 1X (Home Win or Draw) | Home win + Draw | Away win |
| X2 (Away Win or Draw) | Away win + Draw | Home win |
| 12 (Home or Away Win) | Home win + Away win | Draw only |
The trade-off: Additional coverage reduces the odds. Where a home win might be priced at 2.20, 1X (home win or draw) might be 1.40. The question for every double chance selection is: does the increased safety justify the reduced odds?
The answer is yes in three specific scenarios:
- A moderate favourite (1.60–2.20 outright win) where the draw risk is 25–30%
- A market where the draw is unusually likely (defensive leagues, tactically conservative fixtures)
- As an accumulator component where each leg adds consistent, reliable value at odds above 1.30
1X Predictions — Home Win or Draw
1X is the most commonly backed double chance option. It wins if the home team wins OR if the match draws. The only losing outcome is an away win.
When 1X has genuine value (not just safety):
Value in 1X comes when you believe the home team will not lose — but either because you think they win or draw, you are uncertain enough not to take the shorter odds on the straight win.
Structural 1X signals:
- The home team has a loss rate at home of below 15% this season
- The away team has a win rate away from home of below 20% this season — meaning you lose your 1X in fewer than 1 in 5 visits historically
- The fixture is in a league with strong home advantage (African domestic leagues have above-average home win rates)
- The home team has not lost in 6+ consecutive home matches
1X odds and value thresholds:
- Avoid 1X when the home team is such a heavy favourite that 1X drops below 1.15 — the implied margin is too thin
- Best value for 1X: home team priced at 1.60–2.20 for outright win → 1X at 1.35–1.55. This range offers meaningful additional coverage for a reasonable odds reduction
- Over 1.50 for 1X is rare but occurs when the home team is weak or inconsistent — represents excellent value if the structural case supports it
Leagues where 1X hits most reliably: Serie A has the highest home advantage combined with the highest draw rate of any major European league — making 1X on home teams priced at 1.60–2.00 extremely reliable (hitting in 75–80% of such fixtures). Turkish Süper Lig home teams also have strong 1X records. Scottish Premiership home sides outside the Old Firm rarely lose at home, making 1X on Hearts, Hibernian, and Aberdeen home fixtures valuable.
X2 Predictions — Away Win or Draw
X2 covers the away team to win or draw — winning unless the home team wins outright. It is the contrarian double chance option and carries the most research value because away teams are structurally underpriced in many markets.
When X2 has genuine value:
- A strong away team that is the match favourite or near-favourite
- The home team has a weak home record (below 45% home win rate)
- You want to back a quality away side but the draw is a genuine risk given the home atmosphere
- Cup and knockout fixtures where the away team needs a result but may settle for a draw to take back to their own ground
X2 odds and value thresholds:
- Best X2 value: Away team priced at 1.80–2.50 for an outright away win → X2 at 1.40–1.70. The combination of draw protection and realistic away win probability gives you coverage at odds that still build nicely in accumulators.
- X2 above 1.65 on a legitimate away favourite represents exceptional value — search for these in matches where the home team has particularly poor home defensive records.
X2 in European competitions: X2 is structurally reliable in Champions League and Europa League away legs where elite clubs visit mid-range opponents. Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich away from home in the group stage produce X2 results in approximately 80–85% of encounters. Even in difficult atmospheres, these clubs avoid defeat at a rate that justifies X2 at 1.20–1.35.
X2 in African domestic cups: When a top-flight side plays a lower-division club in a domestic cup, X2 on the top-flight side has exceptional hit rates. In the Kenyan Cup, NPFL Cup, and Nedbank Cup (South Africa), top-flight favourites lose in upsets but rarely — X2 protects against the one scenario (outright home win by the underdog) that would cost you.
12 Predictions — Home or Away Win (No Draw)
12 is the least used but potentially most valuable double chance option when applied correctly. It wins if either team wins — the only losing outcome is a draw.
The statistical basis for 12: Draws occur in approximately 24–27% of professional football matches globally. 12 wins in 73–76% of random matches. At odds of 1.20–1.45, the margin seems thin — but in specifically selected low-draw-rate fixtures, the hit rate rises to 85–90% and the value at these odds becomes solid.
When 12 has genuine value:
- Two teams with documented low draw rates in recent form (below 20% draws each in last 10 matches)
- H2H history shows fewer than 2 draws in the last 8 meetings
- High-scoring leagues where draws are less common (Bundesliga averages only 21–23% draws — the lowest of any major European league)
- Both teams have clear motivation to win (title decider, relegation battle, cup knockout) — draws are strategically less acceptable to both
- Attacking fixtures where BTTS is also expected — when both teams score, games are less likely to end level as more goals allow for lead changes
Leagues to avoid for 12:
- Serie A: the highest draw rate in major European football at 28–31%. 12 hits in only 69–72% of Serie A matches — below the European average
- Greek Super League: similarly high draw rate
- Portuguese Primeira Liga: above-average draws
Leagues where 12 is strongest:
- Bundesliga: only 21–23% draw rate — 12 hits in 77–79% of matches
- Premier League: 24–26% draw rate — solid
- Scottish Premiership: Celtic and Rangers matches have particularly low draw rates in recent seasons
Double Chance vs Straight Win vs Draw No Bet — Comparison Table
| Scenario | Straight Win | Double Chance | Draw No Bet |
|---|---|---|---|
| Home 80%+ win probability | Take straight win (1.25–1.35) | DC drops to 1.08–1.12 — avoid | DNB at 1.15 — not worth it |
| Home 60% win probability (25% draw risk) | Risky at 1.80 | 1X at 1.45–1.55 — take it | DNB at 1.55–1.65 — compare |
| Away team 55% win (30% draw risk) | Away win at 1.90 risky | X2 at 1.40–1.55 — suitable | DNB at 1.50–1.65 — compare |
| Genuinely even match (27% draw risk) | Any outright pick is risky | 12 at 1.28–1.38 — removes draw | Not applicable |
| Away team strong favourite (65% win) | Away win at 1.55 | X2 at 1.18 — too low | DNB at 1.40 — better |
Draw No Bet vs X2: Draw No Bet removes the draw completely (refund if draw) but gives lower odds than X2 (which still wins if it draws). If you believe the away team will NOT draw, X2 is a worse choice — take DNB. If you think the draw is possible but still want a return, X2 is the right market.
Double Chance in Kenya
1X on Betika and SportPesa (Kenya)
Betika 1X/X2/12: Betika lists double chance under “Double Chance” in the match markets section. On mobile (Betika’s primary interface), navigate to any match → More Markets → Double Chance → select 1X, X2, or 12.
Betika’s double chance odds are competitive. For a mid-table KPL home team hosting a weaker away side, 1X typically prices at 1.20–1.35. For a stronger KPL home team hosting the league’s weakest away side, 1X can drop below 1.15 — too tight to use.
Betika Kenya double chance accumulator: Kenyan bettors build 1X accumulator slips for mid-tier European fixtures on weekends. A typical Kenyan 1X accumulator includes four 1X selections from mid-table Premier League and Bundesliga fixtures, targeting combined odds of 3.50–5.00. Lower risk than a straight win accumulator at slightly lower odds.
SportPesa Kenya double chance: Same market availability as Betika. SportPesa prices 1X 2–5% tighter than Betika on European fixtures. For KPL fixtures, pricing is very similar across both platforms.
KPL Double Chance Analysis: The Kenya Premier League has a strong home advantage — home teams win approximately 48–52% of KPL matches and draw approximately 26–28%. Away teams win only 22–26% of KPL fixtures. This makes 1X extremely reliable for strong KPL home teams — Gor Mahia at home 1X hits in approximately 80–85% of their home matches.
Recommended 1X KPL sides: Gor Mahia (home), AFC Leopards (home), Tusker FC (home), KCB (home). All have home loss rates below 18%.

Double Chance in Nigeria
1X, X2, 12 on Bet9ja and SportyBet
Bet9ja double chance: Bet9ja offers all three double chance options under “Double Chance” in the more markets section. Available on all major European leagues 7 days ahead and on selected NPFL fixtures.
Bet9ja double chance odds: For a typical Premier League mid-table vs top-6 fixture (away team favoured):
- X2 (away win or draw): typically 1.25–1.40
- 12 (no draw): typically 1.35–1.50
- 1X (home win or draw): typically 1.60–1.80
Nigerian double chance accumulator culture: Nigerian bettors frequently combine X2 selections on European cup competition fixtures as a safe accumulator strategy. A 4-leg X2 accumulator with four strong away teams in Champions League or Europa League ties at 1.25–1.35 each produces combined odds of approximately 2.44–3.22 — safe, consistent, and popular on Bet9ja.
NPFL double chance: The NPFL has the strongest home advantage of the four African leagues covered here — home teams win approximately 50–55% of NPFL matches. This makes 1X on strong NPFL home sides extremely reliable. Rivers United, Enyimba, and Plateau United at home have 1X hit rates above 85%.
X2 on the NPFL’s strongest away teams (Rivers United, Remo Stars playing away) is also well-supported — these clubs are strong enough to win or draw in most away fixtures.

Double Chance in Zimbabwe
Double Chance on Zimbabwean Bookmakers
Betway Zimbabwe double chance: Betway Zimbabwe offers the most comprehensive double chance market for Zimbabwean bettors. Available on all major European leagues and Zimbabwe PSL fixtures.
Zimbabwe PSL double chance analysis: The Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League has significant home advantage — home teams win approximately 46–50% of PSL matches, with away teams winning only 20–24%. This creates strong structural cases for:
- 1X on top Zimbabwe PSL home teams: CAPS United, Dynamos, and Chicken Inn all have home loss rates below 20% — 1X on these sides at home in PSL fixtures hits in approximately 80–85% of their home matches
- X2 on Zimbabwe PSL away fixtures is riskier given the strength of home advantage — only use X2 for PSL away fixtures when the visiting team is the overall league favourite
EcoCash and ZiG double chance deposits: EcoBet and Betway Zimbabwe both accept EcoCash for double chance betting. Our Zimbabwe betting sites guide covers which platforms accept ZiG wallet alongside USD EcoCash.

Double Chance in South Africa
1X, X2, 12 on Hollywoodbets and Betway SA
Hollywoodbets double chance: Hollywoodbets offers double chance on all major European leagues and DStv Premiership fixtures. Their double chance market is labelled “Double Chance” with 1X, X2, and 12 options clearly listed.
DStv Premiership double chance analysis: The PSL has moderate home advantage — home teams win approximately 44–48% of matches and draw 24–27%. Away wins occur in approximately 27–32% of PSL fixtures — higher than KPL and Zimbabwe PSL but lower than major European leagues.
Key double chance patterns in the PSL:
- 1X on Mamelodi Sundowns at home — Sundowns have a home loss rate below 8%. 1X on Sundowns at home prices at 1.10–1.18 — too tight to use. Take their straight home win instead.
- X2 on Mamelodi Sundowns away — Sundowns away lose in only 15% of PSL away matches. X2 on Sundowns away hits in 85%+ of matches, typically priced at 1.15–1.25. Best used as an accumulator anchor.
- 1X on Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates at home — both clubs have home loss rates of 18–22%, making 1X at 1.30–1.45 a viable accumulator leg
- 12 on the Soweto Derby — the Kaizer Chiefs vs Orlando Pirates fixture draws in approximately 22% of recent meetings. 12 (no draw) prices at approximately 1.30–1.42 — acceptable for an accumulator leg given the 78% win-or-lose rate
Betway SA double chance: Betway South Africa offers competitive double chance odds on European leagues and PSL fixtures. Betway occasionally runs double chance promotions on selected weekend Premier League matches — worth checking their Betway Boost section before major fixture weekends.
World Sports Betting (WSB) double chance: WSB available to South African bettors offers double chance on major European leagues. Their pricing on X2 for top European away teams is occasionally more generous than Hollywoodbets.

Double Chance FAQs
Is double chance better than straight win? It depends on the odds reduction. If a home team is priced at 1.40 for outright win and 1X is 1.10, the reduction is too steep — take the straight win. If the home team is 2.00 for straight win and 1X is 1.50, that 25% odds reduction for draw protection is worth it.
Can I combine double chance with over/under goals? Yes. Many African bookmakers offer combined markets like “1X + Over 1.5 goals.” These are separate bets in an accumulator. For same-match combinations, check if your bookmaker offers a pre-built combo market — it will price lower than building it yourself in most cases.
What is the difference between X2 and draw no bet? X2 wins if the away team wins OR draws. Draw No Bet on the away team wins only if the away team wins — but if it draws, you receive your stake back (not a win, but not a loss). DNB provides stake protection on a draw; X2 provides a win on a draw. X2 has better odds; DNB provides more safety.
