Double Chance Predictions — 1X, X2 & 12 Tips for Kenya, Nigeria, Zimbabwe & South Africa

Although there are no guarantees in football betting, double chance is one of the safest type of bet. This somewhat underused market allows punters to cover two of the three possible match outcomes (home win, draw, and away win) in a single bet. But you need to look at some expert predictions before playing this move.

Double Chance is a powerful tool to incorporate in accumulators, and is ideal for backing strong away teams without committing to their outright win. In this guide, we are going to explain covers all three double chance how the market works at African bookmakers such as Betika, Bet9ja, Hollywoodbets, and LuckyBets.

What Is Double Chance, and is it a great bet?

Double Chance (DC) is a bet that combines two of the three possible match results within the normal 90 minutes. You may pick Home Win + Draw (1X), Draw + Away Win (X2), or Home Win + Away Win (12).

The additional coverage, reduces the odds. Where a straight home win is 2.20, the 1X may be priced at 1.40. Does the increased safety justify the lower odds? Well the dynamic can work in three specific situations;

1. 1X is great when the home team is a moderate favourite priced at 1.60–2.20 for outright win, and where the draw probability is 25–30%.

2. Both the 1X and the X2 are good for leagues or fixtures where a draw is pretty likely because the teams are defensive or tactically conservative.

3. When you use DC as an accumulator component, each leg adding a consistent value at odds above 1.30.

1X Predictions — Home Win or Draw

1X is the most common double chance bet. It wins if the home team wins or if the match draws. So, the only losing outcome is an away win.

How to use 1X

The 1X bet has value when stats point out that the home team will not lose but  you are not certain enough to take the stronger odds on the straight win. MWOS is a good place for Zimbabwean punters to play the 1X.

When to go for 1X

1. If the team has an at-home loss rate below 15% within a season.

2. The opponent has an Away win rate below 20% — meaning your 1X has a less than 1 in 5 chance of losing, based on the stats.

3. The league has above-average home win rates. Many African leagues are known for this.

4. When the home team has not lost in 6+ consecutive home matches

1X odds and value thresholds:

Avoid 1X when the home team is such a heavy favourite that 1X drops below 1.15 — the implied margin is too thin. The most reasonable value for 1X is when the home team priced at 1.60–2.20 for outright win and 1X at 1.35–1.55 for outright win.

Odds above 1.50 are rare for 1X but you may see them when the home team is weak or inconsistent. This represents excellent value if you believe the team can hold down a draw.

Leagues where 1X hits most reliably

Serie A has the highest home advantage and the highest draw rates of any major European league. 1X on home teams priced at 1.60–2.00 outright are extremely reliable as they hit in 75–80% of such fixtures.

Turkish Süper Lig home teams also have strong 1X records. Scottish Premiership home sides outside the Old Firm rarely lose at home. A 1X wager on Hearts, Hibernian, and Aberdeen home fixtures can be valuable.

X2 Predictions — Away Win or Draw

The X2 covers a draw or an away win. This bet only loses if the home team wins. It is the contrarian double chance option and requires lots of research. Away teams are typically underpriced.

When X2 has genuine value

1. Backing a strong away team that is the match favourite or the near-favourite

2. When the home team has a home record below 45% win rate

3. You want to back a quality away side but the draw is a strong probability given the home atmosphere

4. In cup and knockout fixtures where the away team needs a result but may settle for a draw to take back their ground

X2 odds and value thresholds:

The odds for Away team is 1.80–2.50 for a straight win and 1.40–1.70 for X1. The combination of draw protection and realistic away win probability gives you coverage at odds that still build nicely in accumulators.

X2 odds above 1.65 on a legitimate away favourite have exceptional value. Search for these in matches where the home team has particularly poor home defensive records.

X2 in European competitions

X2 is likely to win in Champions League and Europa League away legs where elite clubs visit mid-range opponents. Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich away from home in the group stage are good candidates for X2, with a hit rate of approximately 80–85%. Even in difficult atmospheres, these clubs avoid defeat at a rate that justifies X2 at 1.20–1.35.

X2 in African domestic cups

When a lower-division club hosts a top-flight side, X2 has great hit rates. In the Kenyan Cup, NPFL Cup, and Nedbank Cup (South Africa), top-flight favourites rarely lose in upsets. X2 protects against the outright home win by the underdog that would cost you.

12 Predictions — Home or Away Win (No Draw)

12 is the least played market but potentially valuable when applied correctly. It wins if either team wins — the only losing outcome is a draw.

The statistical basis for 1Y2

Draws occur in approximately yt; y–27% of professional football matches globally. 12 wins in 73–76% of random matches. At odds of 1.20–1.45, the margin seems tythin. However, in selected low-draw-rate fixtures, the hit rate rises to 85–90% and the value at these odds becomes solid.

When to try the 12

The 12 bet is suitable when both the home team and the away side have low draw rates in recent form, such as below 20% in last 10 matches. Also of H2H history shows fewer than 2 draws in the last 8 meetings, it makes sense to go for the 12.

For high-scoring leagues where draws are less common, the 12 is a good bet. The Bundesliga, for example, averages only 21–23% draws. You could also do the 1ryur2 when both teams have clear motivation to win, such as title decider, relegation battle, cup knockout.

If you notice a fixture where the BTTS is also a good idea, the  game is less likely to end level as more goals allow for lead changes.

Leagues to avoid for 12

You’d want to avoid Serie A since it has the highest draw rate in major European football at 28–31%. 12 hits in only 69–72% of Serie A matches.

Other leagues to avoid are the Greek Super League and the Portuguese Primeira League, which produces above average draw rates.

Leagues where 12 is strongest

The Bundesliga, where the 12 lands in 77–79% of matches, is the perfect competition for this bet. The Premier League, with a 24–26% draw rate, and the Scottish Premiership are great for this market. Celtic and Rangers matches in particular, have low draw rates in recent seasons.

Double Chance compared to Straight Win and Draw No Bet

Now, let’s see how the Double chance bet compares to the straight win and Draw No Bet markets. The table below shows the ideal situations for Double Chance and where other bets are worth more.

A Draw No Bet has some similarity to X2 and 1X. However, the DNB removes the draw completely, that is, you select your team to win and if there is a draw, your stake is refunded. However, this market gives lower odds than X2, which still wins if it draws.

Betika’s double chance odds are competitive. For a mid-table KPL home team hosting a weaker away side, 1X typically prices at 1.20–1.35. For a stronger KPL home team hosting the league’s weakest away side, 1X can drop below 1.15, which is too tight to use.

A typical Kenyan 1X accumulator on Betika includes four 1X selections from mid-table Premier League and Bundesliga fixtures, targeting combined odds of 3.50–5.00. this multi-bet has lower risk than a straight win accumulator at slightly lower odds.

SportPesa Kenya double chance

This makes 1X a good bet for strong KPL home teams. 1X on Gor Mahia hits in approximately 80–85% of their home matches.

KPL sides for 1X

Gor Mahia (home), AFC Leopards (home), Tusker FC (home), KCB (home). All have home loss rates below 18%.

Bet9ja

Nigerian double chance accumulator culture

Nigerian bettors frequently combine X2 selections on European cup competition fixtures as a safe accumulator strategy. A 4-leg X2 accumulator with four strong away teams in Champions League or Europa League ties at 1.25–1.35 with combined odds of approximately 2.44–3.22, which iss safe, consistent, and popular on Bet9ja.

NPFL double chance

Teams in the Nigeria Premier Football League have stronger home advantage than other African leagues. Home teams win approximately 50–55% of NPFL matches. This makes 1X on strong NPFL home sides extremely reliable. Rivers United, Enyimba, and Plateau United at home have 1X hit rates above 85%.

We recommend X2 on NPFL teams such as Rivers United, Remo Stars. These clubs are strong enough to win or draw in most away fixtures.

Zimbabwe PSL double chance analysis:

A significant number of Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League squads command home advantage. Home wins form approximately 46–50% of PSL matches, with away teams winning only 20–24%.

The 1X is perfect for teams like CAPS United, Dynamos, and Chicken Inn, which win in approximately 80–85% of their home matches. And placing X2 on Zimbabwe PSL matches is riskier, given the strength of home advantage. Only use X2 when the visiting team is the overall league favourite

World Sports Betting (WSB)

DStv Premiership double chance analysis

In the South Africa PSL, home teams win approximately 44–48% of matches and draw 24–27%. Away wins occur in approximately 27–32%. This is higher than KPL and Zimbabwe PSL but lower than major European leagues. Let’s look at some common patterns in Premiership.

Sundowns have a home loss rate below 8%. A 1X pick on the team prices at 1.10–1.18, and is too tight to use. A straight home win is more palatable. Sundowns lose in only 15% of PSL away matches. X2 on Sundowns away hits in 85%+ of matches, typically priced at 1.15–1.25 and works best as an accumulator anchor.

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have home loss rates of 18–22%, making 1X a viable accumulator selectin at 1.30–1.45. Now, the Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have drawn in approximately 22% of recent meetings. 12 odds are approximately 1.30–1.42. This is acceptable for an accumulator leg given the 78% win-or-lose rate.

Building a Double Chance Accumulator

Double chance creates strong accumulators, which is why they are popular among African soccer bettors. Here are model picks for conservative and aggressive punters.

Conservative 4-leg 1X accumulator (target 3.00–4.00)

Leg 1: 1X — Atletico Madrid at home vs mid-table La Liga side (1.18)

Leg 2: 1X — Strong Bundesliga home team vs bottom-half side (1.22)

Leg 3: X2 — Manchester City away in Premier League (1.20)

Leg 4: 1X — Strong NPFL or KPL home team (1.35)

Combined: approximately 2.35 odds at very high confidence

Value 4-leg mixed DC accumulator (target 5.00–7.00)

Leg 1: X2 — Champions League away leg, top team away (1.25)

Leg 2: 12 — Bundesliga high-scoring fixture between two attacking sides (1.30)

Leg 3: X2 — Premier League away, top-6 visiting mid-table (1.38)

Leg 4: 1X — PSL or KPL strong home team (1.40)

Combined: approximately 3.17 odds at high confidence

Conclusion: Two Ways to Win

Even with all the stats and all the inside knowledge, you can’t always be sure how a match will conclude. The Double Chance gives you a sort of safety net. Out of the three possible outcomes, Home Win (1), Draw (X), and Away Win (2), you can select two. This essentially makes the prediction much easier.

Plenty of betting sites and apps have launched across Africa in recent years. Kenyans can place the double chance on Betika, Nigerians on Bet9ja, South Africans on HollywoodBets, and Zimbabweans can go for LuckyBets or MWOS. To make it more exciting, you can combine Double Chance picks and create an accumulator with optimal value.

Double Chance FAQs

Is double chance better than straight win?

To see if a Double Chance (DC) is better than a straight win, you have to consider how DC affects the odds. If a home team is priced at 1.40 for outright win and 1.10 for 1X, the reduction is too steep. The straight win is the best option. If the home team is 1.80 for straight win and 1.50 for 1X, the odds reduction is worth it, considering the additional safety net of a draw.

Can I combine double chance with over/under goals?

Many African bookmakers offer you the chance to combine 1X + Over 1.5 goals in an accumulator. For same-match combinations, check if your bookmaker offers a pre-built combo market. It will price lower than building it yourself in most cases.

What is the difference between X2 and draw no bet?

X2 (Draw or Away Win) wins if the away team wins or if there is a draw. A Draw No Bet on the away team wins only if the away team wins. If there is a draw, you receive your stake back (not a win, but not a loss). DNB provides stake protection on a draw; X2 provides a win on a draw. X2 has better odds; DNB provides more safety.
